Male Eastern Box Turtle
The male Eastern box turtle is a land-dwelling turtle with a high, domed shell patterned in yellow and orange. Males can be recognized by their bright red eyes and a concave lower shell, which helps during mating. Found in our forests and gardens, they feed on plants, berries, fungi, and insects. Box turtles are slow-moving but long-lived, often surviving for decades in the same home range.
