Bushy Seedbox
A common plant of muddy shorelines and receding pond edges, Bushy Seedbox lives up to its name, forming a low, densely-branched mound. Throughout the summer, subtle, four-petaled yellow flowers appear along its many branches.
But its true identity is revealed after the petals drop. The plant leaves behind a fascinating and unique cube-shaped seed capsule—the tiny "box" of its namesake. These distinctive, four-sided pods persist on the stems long into the fall, providing a valuable food source for waterfowl and other wetland birds.
