Wolfe Creek Bridge

Partridgeberry
A delicate, creeping vine, Partridgeberry forms an evergreen mat on the shady floor of acidic woodlands. Its small, dark-green, roundish leaves grow in pairs along trailing stems.
Its most unique feature is its flowers: two fragrant, white blossoms that are fused at their base. These twin blooms give rise to a single, brilliant scarlet berry. If you look closely, you can see two tiny dimples on its surface—a telltale sign of its two-flowered origin.
True to its name, these bright berries are a vital winter food source for partridges (grouse), turkeys, and other ground-dwelling wildlife, often found peeking through a dusting of snow.
