Wolfe Creek Bridge

Mossy Frame.png

Jewelweed

A classic plant of shady, wet places, Jewelweed is known by two fitting names. Its bright orange, trumpet-shaped flowers dangle like delicate earrings and are a favorite of hummingbirds.

True to one name, raindrops bead on its leaves like glistening jewels. And true to its other name, "Touch-me-not," its ripe seed pods burst open at the slightest touch, scattering seeds far and wide. Its watery, translucent stem contains a juice that is a famous folk remedy for soothing the itch of poison ivy, with which it often grows.
